In 1994, 13-month-old Erika Nordby crawled out of her home into the a –24°C winter night in Edmonton. When she was eventually found, her body temperature had fallen from the normal 37 degrees to just 16 degrees celsius (most people are at risk of death at 27 degrees). She was initially unresponsive, but doctors revived her, and she survived with no lasting effects.
