Vancouverites do an annual winter swim

The polar bear swim is just a fun, if masochistic, event that takes place each year on January 1, and involves plunging into the freezing-cold ocean. The first swim took place in 1920, and people have been diving into the chilled water each year ever since, making for almost a decade of teeth-chattering swims.
