Lake effect snow

More frequent now because of global warming, lake effect snow happens when strong, gusty cold air blows over relatively warm, ice-free water and onto land. Also known as a snow squall, a snow streamer, or a snow burst; a.k.a. “Get out the shovel” and “I can’t see you.”
