Gretzky and Lemieux win the Canada Cup

The three-game final of the 1987 Canada Cup between Canada and the Soviet Union featured some of the most exhilarating moments in hockey history. With the deciding Game 3 tied 5-5 in the last few minutes, a faceoff win by Dale Hawerchuk sent Canada towards the Soviet goal led by two of the best players in hockey history: Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky’s drop pass to Lemieux was forcefully wristed up into the net’s top corner. Canada prevailed, 6-5, and won the best of three 2-1.
