The first gold medal at a winter olympics

There’s always someone who does something first. In the case of the Winter Olympics, the first person to win gold was American speed skater Charles Jewtraw, who prevailed over the field at the 1924 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. Jewtraw’s gold medal currently lives in the Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.
