Bonaly’s backflip

French figure skater Surya Bonaly was, for a time, among the world’s greats, but is mainly remembered for one moment. At the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, she completed a backflip landing on one blade. It was a political move as much as an athletic one. The move had recently been made illegal in competition, and many suggest that Bonaly attempted and landed the backflip in order to be penalized.
