15 little-known facts about the Arctic fox

It changes colour with the seasons

The Arctic fox is the only canid to change the colour of its coat with the seasons (white in winter, brown in spring/summer). In coastal areas, it actually changes from brown to a blue morph, rather than white, allowing it to better blend in with surrounding rocks. Unlike the white coat, an Arctic fox’s brown coat contains melanin, which gives it its colour.
