Mosquitoes can drink a ton of blood

Well, not an actual ton, but still: three times its body weight is a lot. It merits mention that only the females drink blood (males drink flower nectar), and that only certain types of mosquitoes bite humans. Females use the protein and iron in blood to form their eggs, and they can drink up to three milligrams of blood. Also: if you’re Type O, you’re probably a mosquito’s favorite snack.
