15 facts about mosquitoes that will make your skin crawl

Some power down for the winter

Female Culicidae mosquitoes will sometimes hibernate when temperatures drop below 50 degrees fahrenheit. They tend to search for small holes to hunker down in for the winter, and some will lay their eggs in water that eventually freezes — which allows the eggs to hatch when the ice melts. Hibernating mosquitoes can live up to six months.
