Lake Erie is bigger and smaller than Lake Ontario

Though Lake Ontario (7,340 sq. mi.) and Lake Erie (9,919 sq. mi.) are roughly the same size, and Lake Erie is actually bigger in terms of surface area, Lake Ontario holds way more water. Lake Erie holds about 116 cubic miles of water; Lake Ontario holds about 393 cubic miles of water. Weird, except it’s not. Lake Ontario is much deeper.
