Lake Superior is really big, part four

A statistic called “retention time” measures how long a given drop of water stays in a given body of water. Of course, this statistic is dependent on what a lake is used for (drinking water, for example), but it’s still astounding that the average drop of water in Lake Superior stays in Lake Superior for 191 years.
